CHRISTIAN SCHREINER THE NORWEGIAN COMPOSER Christian Schreiner is not among the famous composers in Norway. The depth and dimension of his music spreads beyond the borders of country, to a wider perspective, involving all the senses, into the realm of world music. What comes to mind is the painter with large blank canvas, transformed into a riot of color popping, playing, pursuading one to look closer, to enter into its field of dimension and space created by the artist. The storyteller with its ancient myths of good and evil in a language of vision before the written word. Since the 60's, in a carefully built studio in Trondheim, he has been composing music that paints pictures, creates new myths with his innovative sound. His music becoming through experimentation the new trends to follow. He is a skilled engineer and technician in the studio managing many musical productions other than his own. Christian has equal skill composing his own works with warmth, compassion, and knowledge of the human heart and its endless variance of vibrations. When his very detailed compositions come together, although perfect, are not the work of a perfectionist. ”Work”, the heart responds to, it has a flow to the rythms of some unpredictable and random forces that are not ordered in a limited structure but allowed to move and breathe within their framework. He has the machines move beyond their mathematics to add up to more. Most of the strings and some of the piano he plays himself, while carefully picking voices and musicians to fit into his vision of sound. Christian brings out in the people performing, something beyond each on their own. Clearly his music touches people and they respond to it, although his charm can also bequile even the most tone deaf as well. In my wanderings of different musical world landscapes, I have never experienced as broad of canvas or complicated of a story that simply should not be missed. I will send you on your way with a poem of my favorite canadian poet, Angelfish, who wonderfully describes the art of creativeness that Christian presents: As a circle I am closed upon myself I go round and round in all directions trying to create dimension and volume to the sphere that threatens collapse from outside pressures.
